CPU: AMD E2-1800 APU (2 cores, 2 threads) - Boy is this thing slow! We'll get to that down below
Motherboard: It's a laptop, who cares lol.
RAM: 4 GB of DDR3L (2 sticks of 2 GB)
GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon HD 7340
OS: Windows 8.1 (home I think?)
Disk: A delicious 500 GB, 5400 RPM HDD that houses all of my .mkv files of cartoons for my kids.
Display (primary, integrated): A surprisingly decent 1366x768 TN screen. It's okay for what it is.
Display (secondary, external): Sharp Aquos LC-40LE600
Other curiosities: It has an SD card reader which has come in handy to me multiple times.
It has a broken network card, so I use a USB network adapter (page on that coming soon...?).
Also it has a naughty DVD-RW drive to rip all those cartoons from the library >:D
My kids watch .mkv DVD rips of cartoons and play some games on it. That's about it.
Recently we even got a "dumb" TV, and since this laptop has a HDMI port, now we can view those 576p video files in all their glorious 40" bilinear filtered glory.
The CMOS battery of this laptop has died!!! ZOMFG!!! Well...It doesn't really change much actually, since I rarely connect it to the internet and the default BIOS settings work just fine. I haven't had the time or energy to even figure out how difficult of a process it would be to change it.
I do find it funny that the laptop basically has an existential crisis everytime its booted up, since both of its internal battery and now its CMOS battery are completely dead. So it has to figure out everything from scratch every time... Heh... You know, that's kinda sad now that I think about it. I should replace the CMOS battery at least, at some point. Poor thing.
Another funny thing is if you try to go on websites, they bitch and moan to me how "It isn't actually May 2013 you know" and "You're extremely irresponsible with your computers" - hah. They won't stop me! Nyah nyah!
My wife had this laptop when we met. She got it for school and never used it much. I adopted it and marvel at how they could've sold a device like this with a straight face back in around 2012-2013.
This thing is super underpowered. We're talking about a CPU, that's regularly hitting 100% CPU utilization, while doing nothing but playing a single 240p Youtube video (with h264ify mind you), with only a single tab open in Firefox.
I don't know how much of it is the fault of the underpower CPU and how much is the fault of websites having become extremely bloated. Both are to blame though.
According to Passmark's cpubenchmark.net, this AMD E2-1800 CPU (outside link) has about HALF the horsepower of the most run-of-the-mill Core 2 Duo (E6600) (outside link).
It sure feels like it. I mean it can get the job done, eventually, but boy is it a painful experience.
I'm sure that running Windows 8.1 on one of the slowest mechanical hard drive I've ever seen isn't doing it any favors either.
Might install Linux on it at a later date. Windows 8.x is suffering the same fate as Win7 in that's it getting left behind in the dust very soon. But it's not like it needs or should to be used as to browse the web, so meh, it's kinda irrelevant either way.
I kinda have a soft spot for this machine though. It truly ain't much, but it's doing its best.
