Why I will not buy wireless headphones - A love letter to the headphone jack

The headphone jack.

Such a simple thing. It exists on your device, you plug your headphones into it and there you go.

Then come along wireless headphones. Solving a problem for me that I never had! Then forcing that down my throat!! Brilliant!!! The free market at work, folks.
I dunno, I never had a problem with the wire. In theory though, I guess it's pretty nifty to not get the wire all tangled up, but there's just a couple of downsides and one major dealbreaker for me.
The downsides are:

  1. You have to spend more money to get the same audio quality.
  2. It's another thing that you need to worry about charging. My phone is more than enough.

But, the major dealbreaker for me, is their planned obsolescence.
This brings me to another point. What is so wrong with rechargable and swappable AA/AAA/etc. batteries? It's seems like a curseword it seems to many people, something that you shouldn't even mention without getting death stares. I mean, it sucks to need to buy new ones constantly but I don't know if this is some astonishing news for some people, but rechargable AA/AAA/etc. batteries exist and they're not very expensive.
With rechargable batteries, you are not artificially limited by the manufacturer of the device. Oh, your battery is no longer holding charge? Well aw gee, shucks, well, I guess you just gotta buy a new one teehee ;3
With nearly all wireless headphones you buy, from what I've seen, you're stuck with an internal battery that in the best case scenario, you can pay the manufacturer to replace (I honestly don't know if they even do that) or if you're tech savvy you can maybe switch it out yourself - but in most realistic scenarios, you're just gonna have to buy a new device.

Whatever happened to reducing e-waste? I thought we were trying to save the climate here?

Now, I can hear the wireless headphone advocates screaming how "your wired headphones break all the time, the cable breaks and boom you're done!"
Well yes, that is true, but:

  1. You can buy headphones with user replaceable cables. These days, many of them aren't even proprietary cables but standardized ones.
  2. A cable breaking is not PLANNED obsolescence. Now, you can argue that some manufacturers make the cables so shoddily that it's designed to break when your warranty runs out. That's true and it's a huge problem, but it's still better to take a chance than to take something that has zero chance.

No, I will not buy new bluetooth headphones. I will continue using my 10 year old wired headphones till the end of time :3
Long live the headphone jack.
